RECIPE FOR GOOD LIVING SERIES

Send your own one page instructions & winner receives one month free tuition to Catapult workshop. Below is my model. Have fun!

PLAYBOOK FOR ANGUISHED NEOPHYTES ON A POOR ME SWOON

Fine. Sit in your misery. Nurture it. Get off on it. Shout your story. Or not.

Grow it. Bleed it. Scratch it. Need it. Knead it. Let it get worse. Get better.

Watch it from another planet. Sleep with it. Shrink it. Put it in lines.

Then erase all labels. Rename it. Call it Joy for your first waking

hours. Stick pins in it, then pretend you imagine you imagined it.

Walk out, waltz with or flit above it. Trade in last year’s model.

Rewrite it as a comedy, operetta, a blues tune; sing it with a surf band. Invite

cowboy & cartoon characters in. How is it like your favorite flavors?

Translate it into your own private language as a limerick. Reformat.

Amberpoppylob it, a little. And even more. Try again without the feathers.

Donate it to Goodwill or collage it to your Facebook cover image.

Tell us the color of your verbs & revel in the lavender scents

of all riddles & then change that middle name, Copeland.

Something old, something new, something borrowed, something chartreuse.

But be forewarned, popcorn poets often burst in the desert or tropics.

Listen to Eleanor Roosevelt: Do something that scares you every day.

Finally, send me your recipe. www.writerscatapult.com Neither resist nor enjoy

this challenge, by now you should take yourself less seriously than court jesters

or the weather. If not, rewind, recycle, reread. Sing along with the Dali Lama:

                                             Pain is mandatory, suffering optional.

Author(Sally)photo-web

A three-legged stool, Sally Naylor is poet, therapist & teacher, Sally, studied with Campbell McGrath in the FIU MFA program; she thrived in classes with Maxine Kumin, Gerald Stern, Ilya Kaminsky & Tony Hoagland.  Sally is associate editor of SOFLOPOJO, teaches community workshops for the Palm Beach Poetry Festival, writes memoir as well as text and workbooks for neophytes & now offers Zoomshops for emerging poets.

Below is a cento from the manuscript by way of a concise introduction:

Bold, unrepentant, ready: a kind of ginger, myth buster & koan mistress,
rogue, free & holy skeptic, all snake hips & hiss, hyperbole’s own gadfly,
one quirky mechanic tuning the orgasmic     how her hymns buzz.
